Elaine Carlton is a textile artist who has always loved creating with fabrics and threads, and enjoyed teaching Art through the medium of Textiles for over thirty years. She now enjoys producing work for exhibitions, galleries and friends. Pictures are usually composed of a combination of mediums. They always involve machine and hand embroidery on handmade backgrounds made from wool and silk fibres, handmade papers and sheers, which are frequently distress by burning. The work varies in size from 13 x 13 cm to 70 x 100cm and can be found in private collections across the world. Much of her inspiration comes from her travels, especially around Andalucia. The heat and the sun influence the colours, textures and the content. Her Piscean nature means that a great deal of her work involves the sea, beaches and the associated flora and fauna.

She has been involved in textile art groups at Cajobah in Birkenhead, Wirral and with two groups in Cheshire 'Beyond the Surface', 'TX' and Andalusian International Artists in the Costa del Sol . She is, at present a member of Bolton Progressive Threads. Her work has been featured on Spanish Television and in Spanish papers. You can see where Elaine has exhibitions by clicking here.
